India Defeating West Indies and England in 1971 Test Series

 In 1971 Underdog India defeated the two titans of World Cricket – West Indies and England in their own home soils making its presence felt in the World Cricket.
Under the Captaincy of Ajit Wadekar India surprises world cricket by beating first England by 1-0 in three test series and then West Indies by 1-0 in five test series. What was more surprising is that this happened on their home soil. It was first series victory of Indian Cricket team on foreign soil. In many way this victory increased moral of Indian team. People in India started taking this game seriously and a new generation of cricketers were now coming to lead the team.

 Winning World cup 1983
This was total turnaround. India winning world cup of cricket by beating two times champion West Indies in final. By grabbing India’s first World Cup in 1983, Kapil’s Dev’s underdog team made cricket an entire nations everlasting obsession.

World Championship 1985

India dominated the World Championship of Cricket in 1985 comfortably winning every match it played including the finals. India defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in the final to clinch the World Championship of Cricket.

Test win in Eden Garden 2001

Forced to follow on by Australia, rated as the best in the world, that had won 16 Tests in a row, India pulled out a victory out of no where to win the second test in Kolkata (2001). VVS Laxman scored 281 and Rahul Dravid 180 to accomplish this miracle. It was only the third time since Test cricket started in 1877 that a team being asked to follow on emerged victorious.

Natwest Trophy Final

Picture says it all. After being reduced to 146 for 5 at one point,two young guns, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif snatched victory from the Englishmen in the finals of Natwest trophy in 2002 with two wickets and three balls to spare. More than the match, what would be remembered is the celebration aftermath.

2003 World Cup

After 20 years, India once again reached very close to winning the coveted reaching the finals of the World Cup in 2003. Though they lost final in one sided match but under captaincy of Sourav Ganguly a young Indian Team showed a lot of spirit.

Sehwag’s 300 in Multan

Historical moment for Indian Cricket fans when Sehwag scored first triple century of India in Test cricket. A 375 ball 309 runs scored by Sehwag in first test against Pakistan proved crucial and India won that match by an inning. This was first Pakistan tour of India in so many years and Sehwag inaugurated it with memorable performance.

T20 World Cup 2007

A cricket board allergic towards T20 cricket, hesitant to even send their team for the World Cup, preferred to rest its key players only to see its young team winning the first edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.

Sachin 200 in One Day International

If there could be any batsman in world cricket who can score Double Century in ODI it could be Sachin Tendulkar, because of his temperament, shot selection, placement, timing and ability of scoring runs fast. And i doubt if there in any batsman who possess all these talent, and that’s the reason Sachin became first ever cricketer to score 200 in One Day International. He made a not out 200 in 147 ball to register his name again in record book.

World Cup 2011

Not this happens always, but India also hosting World Cup 2011 went into the tournament as favorite. They played some good cricket and their all round ability gave them their second world cup. India became champions of world cricket. And this picture of Dhoni will be enjoyed for many years in future.

 Sunil Gavaskar grimaces in pain after being hit on the elbow by a nasty flier from Marshall. Sunil scored 236 not out in India's first innings agianst West Indies in the sixth and final Test at Chepauk. The master batsman thus registered his 30th century in Tests surpassing Don Bradman's record of 29 which stood for 35 years.

 
 Kapil Dev the Indian captain during the 1983 series bowled brilliantly. He took 9 for 83 in Ahmedabad during the West Indian tour of India.


Vivian Richards demolished bowlers world over. Against India, he had scored 1927 runs in 28 Tests at an average of 50.71 with 192 not out being his highest.

 
 The 1987-88 tour of West Indies, was the highlight for Narendra Hirwani. He took 16 wickets in the Chennai (the then Madras) Test. Sir Vivian Richards was the captain of West Indies. Interestingly this Test was the debut for Narendra Hirwani.


Though Richie Richardson failed miserably during his debut series in 1983, he proved to be thorn for India after that. Of the nine Tests, he scored 871 runs at an average of 58.06.

Stuart Binny


Stuart Binny is the son of Roger Binny (left), who was part of the World Cup winning team of 1983. Roger was known for his all-round ability and seems to have passed on the genes to his son Stuart, who finds a place as an all-rounder in Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2013. Stuart has shown sparkles of brilliance with bat and ball in this season of IPL but has to do more to prove his pedigree.   









Mohinder Amarnath
Mohinder Amarnath (right), man of the series during India’s victorious WC campaign in 1983, has a rich history of family members serving Indian cricket. His father Lala Amarnath (Right) was the first captain of India post-Independence and the first Indian cricketer to score a Test century. His brother Surinder Amarnath was a Test player. His brother Rajinder Amarnath was a former first class cricketer.

Anirudha Srikkanth

Son of Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Anirudha (right) plays for Chennai Super Kings. Since CSK has a well-settled batting line-up, Anirudha hasn't got the chances to cement his place. He has opened for CSK a few times though. He has done reasonably well in the domestic circuit. He topped the run charts for India Under-19s against the touring England U-19s in 2004-05.









Mohinder Amarnath
Mohinder Amarnath played 69 Tests for India scoring 4,378 runs and claimed 32 wickets. In 85 ODIs, he scored 1,924 runs and bagged 46 wickets at 42.84 apiece. Mohinder is the only international cricketer in the world to be given out both for handling the ball and obstructing the field in his career.








Shaun Marsh
Shaun Marsh (right), who plays for Kings XI Punjab in IPL, is the son of Geoffrey Marsh, a former Australian cricketer, coach and selector. Geoff played 50 Test matches and over 100 One Day Internationals for Australia as an opening batsman. Shaun's brother Mitchell Marsh plays for Pune Warriors.
